Increased Tourism
- Over 20,000 visitors will visit Winnipeg for the games, enjoying our renowned hospitality, while joining tens of thousands of Manitobans in attending the opening and closing ceremonies, sport competitions and cultural activities featured throughout this extraordinary 17-day event. The economic impact of the 2017 Canada Summer Games is projected to exceed $160 million.
Stronger Community Ties
- Nearly 6,000 Manitoba volunteers will lend their time and talents to ensure the success of the 2017 Canada Summer Games. Bringing the community together to host a major event strengthens social connections and provincial pride.
Developing Future Champions
- More than 4,000 athletes will take part in the 2017 Canada Summer Games and many more are part of the qualifying and training processes. Ambassadors for their provinces and territories, these young athletes will learn and grow from competing at the national level. The experience will inspire them to dream bigger, train harder and maximize their own athletic potential. They will also serve as role models for all Canadians, as they demonstrate the indisputable value of sport, exercise and active living. The $800,000 in sports equipment being purchased for the games will also leave a legacy for amateur and community sports groups in the province.
Enhancing Infrastructure and Facility Upgrades
- Through their collaborative support of the Canada Summer Games, the Manitoba government, the Government of Canada and the City of Winnipeg will leave a lasting legacy of new and enhanced sport facilities initiated for the games, but to be enjoyed by Manitobans for years to come.
