FIPPA Legislative Review
The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) came into force in 1998 and was significantly amended in 2011. FIPPA provides a right of access to records held by public bodies. It also protects personal information by setting rules for the collection, use and disclosure by public bodies.
The legislation calls for government to undertake regular reviews of the operation of the act to ensure that its provisions remain current and effective. The last review of FIPPA was in 2004.
The deadline for submissions to the Review of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act was June 30, 2017.
A Legislative Review of the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) is also being undertaken by Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living at this time.
